The American Heart Association's Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course, which includes Basic Life Support (BLS), is intended for healthcare professionals delivering care to critically ill infants and children. It emphasizes early recognition and intervention in pediatric emergencies, integrating BLS techniques such as effective chest compressions and AED use. The course covers pediatric assessment, resuscitation team dynamics, airway management, pharmacology, and post-resuscitation care. Successful participants receive a PALS and BLS certification cards, valid for two years. Course registration also includes Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Pre-course preparation is required and includes a self-assessment on ECG rhythm recognition and pharmacology.
Students are required to have the current textbook for this course. Only Denver Health & Hospital Authority staff have the option to borrow a manual from the employee library unless they wish to bring a personal copy. New book purchases include reference cards.
